The Earth Observation Handbook 1997 Edition
The CEOS Earth Observation Handbook presents the main capabilities of satellite Earth
observations, their applications and a systematic overview of present and planned CEOS agency
Earth observation satellite missions and their instruments.
The 1997 edition of the EO Handbook examines the role of Earth Observation, with a particular
focus on its support for the Integrated Global Observing Strategy (IGOS). IGOS aimed to provide
strategies to maximise contributions from EO agencies while assisting user groups and addressing
their requirements.
The handbook outlines observation requirements that range from Earth System research to
decision-making in political and socio-economic sectors. It also highlights the key capabilities
and applications of EO satellites, demonstrating their value in addressing global
challenges.
